From Growing PLants to Growing Faith

We get lots of questions about our unique building structure here at CVL. There’s good reasons for what we have which you’ll see below. We are a newer mission and needed a facility which could do lots of different things, think Swiss army knife, and so our facility is designed for multiple uses and a busy campus which is good for our community here in Carbon Valley. Check out some fun facts below, before and after pics or even better visit us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am.

  • A Former Nursery:  The three peaked structure we now worship in was originally a plant nursery. While in business under several names, Rooted, is the name most of our community came to know.  The south building was for retail, the center and northern structure is where plants were grown.

  •  Drainage Beds:  In the entryway you’ll find polished concrete which is the original flooring on the nursery.  You’ll also see inlaid wood which are two of the drainage beds used for growing plants.  The Inlaid wood is maple boxcar flooring.  Firestone, Frederick and Dacono are coal mining towns.  This wood is a reminder that we serve this community, its history and future.

  •  Steam Locomotive Bell:  If you noticed our bell as you entered it was donated by a member of a sister church in Ft. Morgan.  It originally came off of a steam engine.  You can see the curved base which allowed to be bolted directly to the curvature of the train.

  •  Building Bones:  In order to save money and filling a landfill we re-purposed our building.  It was disassembled down to the metal pillars and trusses then re-build up with additional steel for strength.

  •  Sidewalks:  Most of the concrete sidewalks and walkways outside are original.  Again, instead of digging them up we simply used the existing system.  You’ll see this most vividly on the sidewalks surrounding our artificial turf area.

  •  Native Grass & Wildflowers:  The western field has been seeded with native grasses and wildflowers by Farmer Mike Bowes a local farmer.  As the plants get established, they will be drought resistant and beautiful at the same time.

  •  Busy Bee Preschool:  Busy Bee Preschool rents our southern building Monday – Friday of each week.  We at CVL use their portion evenings and weekends for Carbon Kids.  This unique arrangement serves a few purposes.  It creates a campus which has parents and kids on it all the time and it maximizes use of our facility for the benefit of the community and witnessing opportunities.
